Hace un tiempo te compraste una de las muchas blusas flamencas de mujer o trajes que existen en el mercado y ahora, de cara a actualizar tu vestuario para ferias y romerías, te encuentras buscando un mantoncillo. En ese caso, tendrás que decantarte por uno de los muchos tipos de mantoncillos que existen.

How has the flamenco shawl developed until these days?

The dresses of flamenco or commonly called gipsy dresses have developed a lot during their history. And also it has began a fundamental complement for the dresses. We are referring to the shawl.

The first thing to know is that this cloth has got its origin on the century XVI. Concretely on the year 1575, that was when a numerous group of chinese moved to Manila taking with them all the traditions and habits they had. Between these they found some silk canvases on multiply colours, that were characterized by figures from the flowers to the animals.

This way was born the shawl of Manila that, with the rise of commercial traffic between the spanish colons and the patria country, could arrive to us on the century XVI. Little by little, to this cloth were not only added the fringes but it also converted to an indispensable piece of women clothing on high class. And the times after, on the century XVI was when exactly it was popularized and it extended between the feminine population.

The women used this complement, to protect from the cold and also to look more attractive,  like it can be admired in the pictures of Julio Romero de Torres or in those where are represented the famous Cigarreras of Seville. These, according to some rumours, even used the silk on which came the burdens of tobacco, and then worked to decorate their shawl.

After that passed couple years on those the shawl declined and only was used by some women like those of a gipsy ethnic. From here was when the high class inspired to create the dresses of flamenco, and also opted to give protagonism to the same mentioned textil.

Los Vestidos de flamenca o los llamados comúnmente trajes de gitana han evolucionado mucho a lo largo de la historia. Y también lo ha hecho un complemento fundamental de estos. Nos estamos refiriendo al mantoncillo.

Lo primero que hay que saber es que esta prenda tiene su origen en el siglo XVI. Concretamente en el año 1575, que fue cuando un numeroso grupo de chinos se marcharon a vivir a Manila llevando consigo todas las tradiciones y costumbres que tenían. Entre estas se encontraban unos lienzos de seda de múltiples colores, que se caracterizaban por tener representados desde flores hasta animales.

Así fue como nació el mantón de Manila que, con el auge del tráfico comercial entre las colonias españolas y la tierra patria, llegaría a nosotros en el siglo XVI.

Poco a poco, a esa prenda no sólo le añadieron flecos sino que además pasó a convertirse en una pieza indispensable del vestuario de las mujeres de la clase alta. Y tiempo después, en el siglo XIX fue exactamente cuando se popularizó y se extendió entre la población femenina.

Para protegerse del frío y también para lucir atractivas, las mujeres utilizaron ese complemento, como así puede admirarse en cuadros de Julio Romero de Torres o en aquellos donde se representan a las famosas Cigarreras de Sevilla. Estas, según ciertos rumores, incluso llegaban a utilizar la seda en la que venían los fardos de tabaco con los que trabajaban para adornar sus mantones.

Después pasaron unos años en los que el mantón decayó y sólo era utilizado por algunas mujeres como las de etnia gitana. De ahí que cuando la clase alta se inspiró en estas para crear los vestidos de flamenca, también optaran por darle protagonismo en los mismos al citado textil.

Which accessories to choose for the smallest ones of the house

When we are searching for a flamenco dress for the girls we should take into account one important thing, accessories. The flower
All flamencas that have self-pride can’t pass without the flower or bouquet of flowers. According to the age of the girl we will find ourselves with different options: plush flower, hair jewel with the flower or for the biggest ones, a middle-size flower.

Earrings
What comes to the earrings, we can choose them according to the closing type: 

• Pressure closing. It is the most common and the most comfort one. For the smallest girls these kind of earrings are very recommended with the backside of spiral that supports the best conformity and that is the most difficult to loose.
• Omega closing. This is the most common one on the flamenco earrings of the older girls and the thing is that it supports the main secure for the heavy and big earrings. If for the girl it results to be comfort, for sure there are many wonderful models with this type of closing.
• Clip closing. It is indicated for the girls that don't have pierced earlobe and it can be a good option for the babies that can’t stand the rest of the earrings.

Combs or brushes
The most used materials of this kind of accessories are made of plastic and acetate, and depending on the length of the hair, girls will use the combs or the brush, or both at the same time.

Bracelet and shawl
These accessories are used on the function of the tendencies of the year. The shawl has always been one of the indispensable in gipsy dresses for the girls but couple years ago it was substituted with the ruffle string directly in the neckline of the dress.

Qué complementos elegir para las más peques de la casa.

Cuando buscamos traje de flamenca para niñas debemos tener muy en cuenta lo importante que son los complementos. Dependiendo de la edad de la niña podremos decantarnos por un tipo de complemento u otro. También influye mucho lo inquieta o paciente que sea, no todas aguantamos las mismas cosas.

Complementos imprescindibles.

La flor

Toda flamenca que se precie no puede pasar sin su flor o ramillete de flores. Según la edad de la niña nos encontramos con diferentes opciones: una felpa con la flor incorporada, un pasador con flor o, para las más mayorcitas, una flor de tamaño medio.

Pendientes

En lo que respecta a los pendientes podemos elegirlos en función de su tipo de cierre:

• Cierre a presión. Es el más frecuente y el más cómodo. Para las niñas más pequeñas se recomienda mucho es este tipo de pendientes con la parte trasera de rosca ya que aporta mayor comodidad y es más difícil de perder.
• Cierre omega. Este es el más común entre los pendientes de flamenca de las más mayores ya que es el que aporta mayor seguridad para pendientes de más peso y mayor tamaño. Si a la niña no le resulta incómodo seguro que encontrará modelos preciosos con este tipo de cierre.
• Cierre de clip. Está indicado para las niñas que no tienen perforado el lóbulo y puede ser una buena opción para las más bebés que no soporten el resto de pendientes.

Peinecillos o peineta

Los materiales más usado para este tipo de complementos son el plástico y el acetato, y dependiendo de la lontitud del pelo de la niña se usarán los peinecillos o la peineta, o ambos a la vez.

Pulseras y Mantoncillo

Estos complementos se usan en función de las tendencias de cada año. El mantoncillo siempre ha sido uno de los imprescindibles en trajes de gitana para niñas pero desde hace unos años se han sustituido por una tira de flecos directamente en el escote del traje.
